The 2026 season of Gowns for Prom has officially concluded, marking a milestone year for the community-driven initiative backed by Colvin Cleaners. Operating out of its new, dedicated headquarters on Elmwood Avenue from March 3 through April 11, the program successfully provided 1,000 free, beautiful gowns to high school students across Western New York.
This year’s transition to a permanent location allowed the operation to expand its footprint, offering students a true boutique experience while streamlining the massive logistical effort required to collect, sort, tailor, and distribute the dresses.
Reflecting on the record-breaking season, the leadership team shared their thoughts on what making this program happen means to them and the WNY community.
Paul Billoni, President & Owner of Colvin Cleaners, on the program's enduring legacy:
"When we first started Gowns for Prom, the goal was simple: make sure no student had to miss out on a milestone event because of the cost of a dress. To stand in our new Elmwood Avenue space this year and watch our 1,000th gown go home with a student is profoundly humbling. The generosity of Western New York is unmatched, and seeing the community spirit is one of the greatest privileges of my life."
Chris Billoni, Vice President of Colvin Cleaners, on the operational success of the new space:
"Moving into a dedicated headquarters this season was an absolute game-changer. Between March 3 and April 11, we saw an incredible volume of students, and this new space allowed our volunteers to give each and every one of them the VIP treatment they deserve. Distributing 1,000 gowns is a massive logistical feat, but seeing the joy and relief on the faces of these families makes every hour of sorting and dry-cleaning completely worth it."
Samantha Power, General Manager, on the emotional impact and student experience:
"For so many of these students, finding the perfect dress isn’t just about the prom itself—it’s about confidence, empowerment, and feeling seen. Walking into the boutique and being surrounded by people who are genuinely invested in making them feel beautiful creates a magic that extends far beyond a single night. This program tells our youth that their community supports them and wants to celebrate them, and that is a truly powerful message."
The success of the 2026 season was made possible by the tireless dedication of volunteers (over 150!), community partners, and the countless individuals who donated their gently used gowns. As the racks are cleared and the season wraps up, the Gowns for Prom team is already looking forward to welcoming the next class of students next spring.
